Geography of Cuba
The real jewel of the Caribbean Sea, Cuba is the biggest island of the Antilles. The country is situated at the entrance of the Mexican Bay, 150kms far from the coasts of Florida, directly under the Tropic of Cancer. Its neighbouring countries from the south are Haiti and Jamaica and the Bahamas from the east. Cuba is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean from the west and by the Caribbean Sea from the east.

The climate of the country is subtropical. The average temperature is 22-28°C all around the year. Sun is shining 7-8 hours a day in 300 days of the year. Cuba has two seasons: from November to April it’s dry and mild; from May to October it’s rainy and hot with gusts of rain. Humidity: 80% all year.

110 865 km² in total with the islands belonging to the country. Length: 1250kms. Width: from 31kms to 191kms. Biggest island: Isla de la Juventud / Island of Youth (area: 2200 km²). Most of the country is plain. Highest point: Pico Turquino: 1974 meters, in Sierra Maestra Mountains. Longest river: Rio Cauto 343 kms (not navigable).

Cuba has 11.200.000 inhabitants. Most of them are Afro-Cubans and there are also Europeans, mulattos and Chinese. Most of the inhabitants live in cities (in Havana: 2.2 millions, in Santiago de Cuba: 1 million).
