Cuba news - Buena Vista Social Club Concert in America

Cuban Buena Vista Social Club will perform concert in America again after seven years.
The concert of Buena Vista Social Club on Thursday, in New York will be followed by two other in America, the band will play in Chicago on Saturday and in Los Angeles on Sunday. After these concerts in the United States, the band will travel to Europe to perform on the tour of 25 concerts.
Concert of Buena Vista Social Club is the latest export product of the Cuban entertainment sector, with which they would also like to make Cuban - American cultural relationship closer. Director of the band, Jesus Ramos told before the concert that they were waiting for this opportunity to play for their American fans, which lasted besides the cold relations between the two countries. Ramos was happy about that the public could learn and love Cuban music styles like son, danzon or bolero.
Musical legends of the Cuban band were saved from oblivion by Ry Cooder, American musician when in 1996 he travelled to Havana and produced their Grammy winning album, titled Buena Vista Social Club. Three years later a documentary was made with the same title and that was nominated for Ocar Avward.
In the years passed by since the above mentioned events, some of the well-know members of the band has dies, such as the singers Compay Segundo, Pio Leiva or Ibrahim Ferrer, the pianis Ruben Gonzalez or the bass player Orlando Lopez. Even though current singer of the band, Omara Portuondo or percussionist Amadito Valdes is in good health, they won't perform during this tour. But original members like Barbarito Torres, Manuel Mirabal or Manuel Galban are travelling with the band and play at the concerts.
